INS NISHANK – A LEGACY OF INDIAN NAVAL PROWESS
INS Nishank, a Veer-class missile corvette commissioned in 1989, exemplifies India’s maritime strength. With a displacement of 455 tons and speeds over 35 knots, this fast and agile vessel was equipped with P-20M anti-ship missiles, a 76.2 mm gun, and advanced radar systems.
INS Nishank played a key role in major naval missions, including Operation Vijay during the Kargil War, and participated in several joint exercises and patrol operations. After 33 years of dedicated service, the ship was decommissioned in 2022. Today, its legacy continues as a walk-through museum at the National Maritime Heritage Complex, where visitors can experience life aboard a naval warship.

The Ilyushin Il‑38 SD is a long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft that has served the Indian Navy since 1977. Upgraded with the advanced Sea Dragon Suite, the aircraft can detect submarines, surface ships, and other potential threats across vast ocean regions. It is capable of carrying torpedoes, depth charges, and anti-ship missiles, making it an important platform for protecting India’s maritime boundaries. Even as newer aircraft join the fleet, the IL-38 SD continues to be a dependable asset in naval aviation. Today, its legacy is preserved as a walk-through museum at the National Maritime Heritage Complex, allowing visitors to experience a piece of India’s naval history.
